Comment on Strat Ultra specs:

"All the Ultras have chrome Plated locking tuners, Bridge Saddles, and roller nut.

As mentioned, the Ultra models also feature chrome plated Schaller locking tuners, Chrome plated Wilkinson nut..."

My Strat Ultra dates to 1990 production and uses Sperzel locking tuners, not Schaller (I find Sperzels to be superior). The tuners and nut were both brushed metal, not chrome. The bridge is chrome.

The early Ultras are really phenomenal guitars and have been largely overlooked.

Admin reply: Actually, I have never seen an Ultra without the Chrome parts. When Fender first advertised these that was a feature they came with from the beginning. Every time someone has shown me a "Ultra" without the Chrome parts, it was always a Strat Plus with upgrades, like the ultra pickup assembly. All Ultras had Ebony fretboards, not rosewood with real abalone dot inlays. One cane find the very first advertisements for these and you can see the "features"...it would be odd that fender would sell them without the "features!" Yes some did come with Sperzel Locking Tuners. I have seen a few very early 1990 Ultra's with them.... ;)

Great site man, cant put into words how much it helped with my 1990 strat plus deluxe, not 1999. I was wondering if you've had any experience with the Ash bodies turning milky around the edges of the guitars.

Admin reply: very odd that your guitar shows a milky tinge around the edges. It has to be the clear coat somehow reacting with either UV or the sealer used when finishing the guitar. Is your the natural finish or the semi-transparent colored finish?

Great website ! Must have taken forever. Have read the Plus / Plus DLX pages at least 20 times now. Very confusing but I usually find the answer to my query. Fantastic job.
Must have driven you mad with all the variations and contradictions. What were Fender thinking of ?
Cheers

Very nice website lots of interesting info.Have just finished rebuilding my HM strat ,rerouted for a floyd rose and a humbucker in the neck (HSH) master volume and tone with a blend * * * in the third spot.Humbuckers are wired series split parallel. The pickups are Tom Andersons .Have always wanted a Strat with a ebony fretboard but just way too complicated to remove and replace .
